I'm a fictional person, but interesting enough, I think. *This is a character journal for a Star*Drive Game.*
I was born in 1969, but if I told anyone that these days, they’d first laugh their heads off and second, call the boys with the straight jackets to lock me up. Once upon a time, though, I was the second of 5 boys in Smyrna, Tennessee. My folks worked double shifts most of the time and my big brother was something of a trouble maker. I spent a mess of time protecting the little ones from him and his bad temper. I'm thinking I wasn't the only one relieved when he was arrested at 18. I spent even more time with my little brothers after that. Casey was still only 6 years old and I didn’t want him turning out bad like Jason. I did the best I could and I reckon things got pretty ugly after I left, specially since it was sudden and mysterious.
I also had a job- part time, fixing cars for an old army buddy of my dad’s. I have a natural affinity for fixing stuff, but I didn't realize how good I was until later.
It was a normal June day. The afternoon thunderstorm was nearly done
and the wind had died down plenty. My truck had a half tank of gas and
I was making my way over to Todd's to fix Mr. Briar's van. There was
a lightning strike a little too close to my windshield and then there
was dark.
Actually, what it was was a mud-hole. I wake up face down in this smelly mud-hole and thinking I crashed my truck.
But when I lift up out of the grime I can see that presumption ain't
correct. I was in a mud-hole alright, but I come to find out I wasn't exactly home. I was on a planet somewhere in what they call the verge, and the date was April 8, 2491.
500 years in the future.
I ain't gonna go into detail on the next ten years or so. Suffice it to say that my mechanical skills were spookily still useful on new technology and I ended up landing myself a good engineering job aboard a small ship. During the time it took me to land that job I spent some miserable time on a backwards planet.
Now I'm out exporing the universe, looking for answers and maybe a place to call home.
